blackSAF Volunteers Needed

For Service to the Armed Forces, (SAF) The Red Cross serves as the primary emergency communications link between military families and service members around the world. If an area resident needs to reach a military family member concerning a birth, death, medical emergency, change in child care arrangement or other family-related crisis, Red Cross staff and volunteers verify and deliver the information to the service member.

Our local volunteers make this emergency communications link happen by agreeing to receive phone calls one or two nights a month from families, and then delivering or verifying the information into the communications systems operated by the American Red Cross. The link happens by phone or by the internet.

blackDisaster Services

Disaster Services Provide:

v Assistance to individuals with urgent and verified disaster caused needs

v Shelter management

v Emergency mass care

v Education to the community on disaster planning and preparedness

The American Red Cross

The chapter helps not only in local disasters but is a part of a national network of Red Cross units.  Volunteer and paid staff assists disaster victims when the need arises anywhere in the United States.  Local disaster volunteers commit to a three-week assignment when working on National Disasters.

The Red Cross teaches people in the community how to prevent and prepare for disasters. The Red Cross provides free information on preparing for disasters to help people plan for specific types of disaster, cope with the disaster’s traumatic impact, prevent injuries, save lives and reduce the loss of property.

If you would like to become a member of our Disaster Action Team, classes are available free of charge. Click here for a class schedule.  Call (802) 773-9159 Monday through Friday for information about disaster services.

All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible through the contributions of time and money from the American people.

If you are in need of immediate assistance call the Central VT-NH Valley Chapter at (802) 773-9159.

blackInternational Services

The American Red Cross is a part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement- a phrase that symbolizes the unity of all Red Cross work carried out by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, 170 national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies around the world, and the Magen David Adom in Israel.

The mission of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is to relieve human suffering, wherever it may be found; to protect life and health; to ensure respect for the human being, particularly in times of armed conflict and natural disaster; to help prevent disease; to promote health and social welfare; and to encourage voluntary service.  The Fundamental Principles of the Movement are humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.

As a major part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, American Red Cross International Services supports humanitarian relief around the world.  Activities include:

  • Tracing relatives separated during disasters or wars.
  • Educating the public about international humanitarian law.
  • Responding with personnel, financial aid, and in-kind donations in response to appeals for relief assistance in armed conflicts and international disasters.
  • Helping to strengthen Red Cross and Red Crescent societies in other nations by sharing the expertise and resources of the American Red Cross.
